About Prep-In

Thank you for taking the time to read this letter. We may not yet know each other well, so allow me to briefly introduce myself.

I am Eric. I was born in a town in northern China known for its traditional folk arts, and in my early teens I crossed the ocean with my family to the U.S. West Coast. In my mid-twenties I returned to China and chose Shenzhen — a city full of energy and opportunity — as my home.

You may wonder: why would a Chinese-American choose to work in education? The answer begins with my own youth. I went abroad alone at fifteen and, like many students, faced the language barrier, culture shock, the awkwardness of host families and the unfamiliarity of foreign food. I remember waiting anxiously for hours in a hospital the first time I fell ill, and I encountered my share of unkind looks and treatment. I prepared for the dreaded SAT, lived through the anxiety of college applications, and later faced many quiet difficulties in interviews and job hunts.

In short, almost everything your child may go through, I have already experienced. Those years taught me how hard each step of studying abroad truly is.

After graduation, I followed the crowd, earned the CFA, and pushed my way into investment banking — the supposed pinnacle of finance. But behind the polish, I gradually realized the work that truly fulfilled me was not the salary or status, but the volunteer mentoring I did in college, helping classmates apply to their dream schools. That small spark stayed with me, and when I met like-minded partners, I committed myself fully to education — and have stayed for more than a decade.

Over those years, I have walked beside hundreds of students into the schools of their dreams. We laughed and cried together, volunteered, played basketball, attended summer programs; I helped them find lawyers, navigate disputes with locals, and even invited them home for Lunar New Year dinner. Those moments mean more to me than any acceptance letter, because I have always believed: trust the process. The strength a child builds along the way matters far more than the result.

Today, as a senior consultant with over a decade in the industry — and as a father — I deeply understand the confusion and anxiety parents feel when faced with so many choices. This industry is uneven, and information asymmetry makes decisions even harder.
